The Big Three-Oh on the Island of Spice

We are at our final destination now, the Caribbean island of Grenada, we arrived here on Friday afternoon on a 40 minutes flight from Venezuela. St. Georges, GrenadaIt’s very nice to be speaking English again with the locals, after 8 months of Spanish and a few weeks of Portuguese we suddenly feel that we can communicate again! It was funny the other night though, we got on a bus and asked the conductor to take us to the Banana Club, to which he replied with his thick Caribbean accent “Whod ya wan tago to da ‘anana cub fore it tree mile walk fom de rondaboot, yoo wana go inside?” to which we had blank expressions on our faces. I didn’t have a clue what he was on about, I actually wished he was speaking Spanish so we could understand him! ha ha. We got there in the end.

Me on my 30th Birthday! It is lovely here on the Island of Spice, we’ve sampled a few Caribbean rums and been on a tour of the island where we had our obligatory tourist photo with local ladies with fruit on their head etc. A lot of the island is still damaged from Hurricane Ivan in 2004, and we went past the brand new Cricket Stadium which is almost ready for the World Cup which is here in April 2007. Then last Sunday it was my 30th Birthday! thanks for the cards (that dolly has been smuggling for 2 months!) and emails! We had a great day, we got up early and headed down to Grand Anse beach where we jumped on a dive boat and did 2 dives, Perfect beach, Grand Anse, Grenadawhich was great fun, although when we came up after the first dive it was pouring down! felt like we’d come up at home!

So for the rest of the week, we’re going to be getting ready for our return to the UK, we are both really looking forward to coming home and seeing everyone, and of course planning the big day! We arrive at Gatwick on Saturday 10th Feb, and we’ll be around in London for beers a week or so after that, We’ll be posting our final “Blog” on Friday with the details.
