A Holiday in Venezuela
Hi there, for the last 9 days we’ve been in Venezuela, and for the last 8 of those days we’ve been on the pleasant island of Margarita. Which is a bit of a holiday resort, and we’ve certainly been settling into “holiday-mode” by going to the beach every day! Finally we left mainland South America behind us, and after taking our final bus journey, thank the lord, we jumped on the express ferry to holiday-ville. The thought of another boat wasn’t a pleasant one either, but at least this time it was only 2 hours, not 137 and not a hammock in sight.
We aren’t staying on the posh side of the island, with the all inclusive hotels and all that, just because its so expensive, so we’ve been chilling out in the little town of Juan Griego, which is about a 5 minute taxi ride from the best beach on the island, so we’re quite happy with that!
We knew we’d made it to civilisation on day 5 of going down the beach when we turned up at 9.30am to find out that 2 coach loads of Germans had turned up and nicked all the sunbeds. We couldn’t believe the stereotypicalness (if thats a word) of the situation! We eventually found some more round the back and it was all ok in the end. We have ended up going to the same part of beach every day with the same bar and staff etc, so we have come toknow a few of them, so much so that Michelle who works behind the bar presented us with 2 banana milkshakes when we asked for 2 sprites, just because
we ordered 2 milkshakes yesterday, of course, she’s working on beach time, which is about 24 hours behind the rest of us!
Well tomorrow (February 2nd) we fly to our final destination, Grenada in the Caribbean. We really can’t believe 8 and a half months has nearly gone by! Sometimes it feels like its flown, and other times it doesn’t, you know what I mean. Well, we will post some more from Grenada, and at the end of the week we’ll leave our final “Rick & Dolly and Mysterious Cities of Gold” post of the trip.

Life defining, life changing, awe inspiring, soul awakening…or just a bloody good laugh? From the varied and diverse blogs you’ve written it certainly sounds like it’s been all of these things and many more!
Enjoy every last second of the home straight & see you for a beer or 3 in an overpriced London bar soon ;-) !
