Nicaraguian Bull Run
We’ve had a nice relexing time recently, having been on the move for two and a half months we’ve finally found a bit of time to stop and take a breather. Up until recently the most amount of time we’d spent in one place was 3 or 4 days and it can get quite tiring, but now were in Nicaragua, a lovely town called Granada, and we’ve been here for 11 days now.
One of the reasons we decided to stay on here was that it is pretty cheap, and there would be a bull run in town on the coming Sunday, as were were informed at our regular breakfast hangout “Ed’s Nica Buffet” easily the best breakfast we’ve had the whole trip.
As you know Phill and Sue don’t have as much time as us in Central America so they had to move on, but we stayed and man was it insane or what! Firstly people started to gather on the streets at around 3pm, most of them looking for a high position, on roofs, up lampposts, clinging to buildings and in the churches bell tower. We were just outside the church on the wall when the first Bulls ran down.
Once we’d seen the bulls run past (one took a wrong turn) we actually thought that was it, lasted 10 minutes, nothing special. We were wrong however,
and as we walked back to our place we began to realise that the whole town would desend in to chaos very quickly. All the bulls had split up and gone the wrong way all over town, rather than straight down the main street to the lake. Oh what fun. It was great watching a Bull charge into the restaurant at the bottom of our road, which could only been bettered if it was china shop, but you can’t have it all.
The streets were absolutely packed, and if you lived locally and had a horse, then you were sat on it in the middle of town reins in one hand, beer in the other. When one of the bulls finally made it into the main square I young man decided to show how macho
he was by riding the bull for a few seconds before taking a kick to the chest and being carted off in the Central American equivelent of a St. Johns Ambulance.
Big crowds gathered all over town for the next few hours, and finally we decided that it was time to go home, 3 hours later. On the way home, in fact just outside our hotel thee was a bull lying on the road, looking pretty much done for. Which made you feel a bit bad for watching the whole days events as cleraly this bull wasn’t going to make it, poor thing. However, later on that night there was a great BBQ in the main square.
Fortunately, we managed to get a bit of footage of the Nicaraguian Bull Run and as always we’ve popped it up on youtube, or you can view it below.

Outstanding, Thanks for sharing, we were there that day, but you did a much better job capturing the scene
