They call me the Ganja Farmer
“Ganga, ganja, ganja, ganja, ganga, they call me the ganja farmer. ganga” The chorus to the belizeian regee tune that was pumping out of our taxi the other day, the driver played it 4 times. We have hit Belize, and it definately has the caribbean vibe, regee beats, white sandy beaches and turquise seas. nice.
We left Mexico about 10 days ago now after spending about 4 weeks in total there. It was a huge place, and I definately mis-judged how long it took to get from A to B when we were researching this trip. However, Mexico was great and we got to see a lot of it. I remember reading once that Thailand could be considered the worlds kitchen, and if thats the case then Mexico is definately the worls utility room, the Laundry’s were great! :D
One funny thing about Belize is the supermarkets, the Chinese have a monopoly on them, and there’s always a chinese restaurant either next door or close by. random. We have been to a few Cayes out here and I managed to get a few dives out by Lighthouse Reef, the home of the famous ‘Blue Hole’ which is a 400ft deep hole in the middle of the ref, about 1000ft across. It’s full of sharks and mantas etc, I did my depest dive ever. 40 metres, a little scary, and I didn’t take the camera down on that one, but managed to get some good photos on the following 2 dives.
After leaving Caye Caulker we decided to take a quick trip to Guatemala to see the mayan ruins at Tikal. Which was well worth it, much better than the sites we saw in Mexico, however after our 6th Mayan site we might be a little ruined-out now, so no more boring pics of old buildings! We did make a bit of a video while we were in Tikal, you can see it below. Tikal was where they filmed part of Return of the Jedi, the bit with all the ewoks on the Forest Moon of Endor! So an obligitory Ewok hunt was required.
