Herbie goes Loco!
Well, after deciding on quickening up our pace down Mexico’s Pacific Coast, we opted to blow a bit of the budget on a flight to Acapulco. We had a 30 minute stop back in Guadalajara Airport to catch the last 30 minutes of the Mexico Vs Iran game, on a portable TV in the departure lounge and then we were ready for going Loco.
Acapulco is huge, bigger than I imagined, but not pretty. I guess the beaches and the bay are nice, but once you get behind the hotels I found it a bit dissapointing, we had only planned one night here as we were expecting this, our aim was to get in, see the famed Cliff Divers of Acapulco and get out again.
The amount of Volkswagen Beatles in this country is outstanding! must be a least 1 per family, and most mexicans believe that you can fit at least 2 families in one as well. I think my record to date is 8 people in a Beatle on the outskirts of Acapulco, grated most of them kids, but still an impresive feat. All of the Beatles are mark 1 of course, and 95% of them are cabs. in Mexico City they are green with white trim, whereas in
Acapulco they are white with blue trim and have huge numbers on the bonnet and roof, so much so, that the streets of Acapulco look like a 24hr street race. most entertaining “overtake him! overtake him! I’ll give you 10 more pesos! get past number 1368!!!”
Anyhoo, since leaving Acapulco we have made our way to Puerto Escondido, we’d heard so many good reports about this place from other travellers we had to see for our self, and it is fantastic, we splashed out a little and have paid 8.50 (pounds) a night each for a lovely hotel on the beach witha pool, and for the last few days we’ve been in the pool and around the pool bar catching up with the World Cup. Finally a bit of relaxation after franticly moving from one place to the next.
Yesterday I finally plucked up the courage to try my new Underwater Camera Case. Basically, I pop my lovely Sony DSC-N1 in a box and put it in the water. Hmnnn, I was papping it. I mean, how often do you get a nice toy and read the instructions first? I read them 8 times.
Alas tho, I took the “Submergance of Faith” and took a few test shots in the pool! and it didn’t get wet! Hooray! So hopefully, once we get some snorkelling done we should get some nice fishy shots. Either that or there’ll be a post all about my broken camera.
This morning I was looking forward to reporting that I am winning my battle with the mosquitos. At the start of the day over the 2 weeks we have been here it was Mosquitos 2 - Farrell 3. my 3 kills, to their 2 bites, however, in the last 30 minutes since I have been in this Internat Cafe I’ve let in 4. Little B******s are now 6 - 3 up. This internet place is infested. hence the reason for the end of this post.

just found out about your website today - it’s hilarious (esp the videos). I am definitely going to Brazil in November (7-23) and we’re gonna do the North east around salvador followed by the pantanal. I hear that Brazil is a pretty small really so I imagine we’ll bump into you no prob!
